JK: Senior DPAP leader Taj Mohiuddin resigns

Date:

A day after the dates of Assembly polls were announced by the Election Commission of India in Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) received a major setback as senior leader of the party Taj Mohiuddin resigned on Saturday.

A former minister in the erstwhile state, Mohideen had resigned from Congress and joined Azad led DPAP in August 2022.

“I have formally resigned from DPAP” Mohiuddin told UNI. ” I will be rejoining Congress in the coming days.”

A prominent Gujjar leader, Mohiuddin originally hails from the Jammu region. However, his political turf is in the border constituency of Uri in Baramulla district where he was elected twice in 2002 and 2008 Assembly elections.

After the formation of the DPAP, the party has not able to make serious inroads in the political landscape of J&K.

In the recently held Lok Sabha election, DPAP’s three candidates- Saleem Parray from Anantnag-Rajouri , G M Saroori from Udhampur and Amir Bhat from Srinagar, forfeited their deposits. The party also recorded a single-digit vote share while not managing a lead in any of the 54 Assembly segments falling under the three Lok Sabha seats.
