Araghchi says Iran not currently negotiating with US: Reports

Date:

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the country’s authorities are not currently negotiating with the United States to end the conflict in the region, Iranian television channel Press TV reported.

Araghchi said the United States conveys messages to Tehran through various intermediaries, but this does not mean negotiations are underway.

On March 24, US President Donald Trump said Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are part of the US negotiating team with Iran. The negotiation process resumed on Sunday and demonstrated Tehran’s serious intent to find a way to resolve the conflict, the US president said. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has denied holding talks with the US.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

The US and Israel initially claimed their “pre-emptive” attack was necessary to counter the perceived threat coming from Iran’s nuclear programme, but they soon made it clear that they want to see a change of power in Iran.
