Making a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led government in West Bengal, BJP on Friday said the situation in West Bengal is “unfortunate”
and there have been “fatal attacks” on our workers in the state ahead of Panchayat polls.
“The way the West Bengal Govt and Police are behaving writes a very dark chapter in India’s democratic and electoral history,” said Sudhanshu Trivedi here, while addressing a press
conference at Party Headquarters in New Delhi.
Trivedi’s remarks came after the BJP’s party workers allegedly attacked the TMC workers ahead of Panchayat polls in the state, which is scheduled to be held on July 8, with the counting of votes scheduled for July 11.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has denied all allegations with regard to the attack on the opposition party leaders.
“I want to say this to the Trinamool government and Mamta ji that – this game of violence that you are playing, the communist government used to do the same… Look at their condition today,” BJP leader said.
Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “In the land of Rabindra Sangeet, bomb blasts can be heard now. The kind of scenes that are being seen in the panchayat elections of West Bengal, the series of violence that
is being seen is painful”.
“Even more sad is the insensitivity of the government there”, he said.
The panchayat polls in West Bengal are likely to see a fierce contest between the BJP and the
ruling Trinamool Congress being touted as a litmus test for both parties ahead of next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
