JNU Unrest: Political Leaders Attack PM

Date:

With Jawaharlal Nehru University here on the boil, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter on Saturday, saying that while no anti-national activity should be tolerated and those indulging in it should be punished, “Modiji wants to terrorise everyone by using police”.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s office tweeted in the morning: “Modi Govt. and ABVP bullying an institution like JNU simply because it won’t toe their line is completely condemnable.”

Communist Party of India(Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury was scathing in his criticism of the government after meeting the Home Minister.

He told presspersons that the Left leaders had conveyed to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that the situation on the JNU campus was “worse than that during the Emergency” of 1975-77.

“The new Vice-Chancellor allowed the police to enter as soon as he took charge. They change the V-Cs and the new ones do what they wish. Be it Hyderabad University or JNU, an RSS agenda is being imposed,” Mr. Yechury told the media.

“They are branding JNU as anti-national. None will believe this. India’s Foreign Secretary and former IB chiefs have been JNU alumni. Many IAS and IFS officers have studied at JNU.”(Agencies)
