The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested Social Security Officer from the office of the Regional Director, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Jammu while demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant.
Official comminique here said that the CBI registered the instant case based on a complaint that wife of complainant was running a private firm which became defunct and has not been doing any business since inception.
However, ESIC, Regional Office, Jammu has been harassing by issuing Notices under section 45 for non-deposit of contribution to ESIC.
When the complainant met the Social Security Officer, namely Satyendra Kumar, he demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.10,000 from the complainant to close the proceedings and after negotiation, the accused agreed to accept Rs.9,000, it read.
The comminique said that the CBI laid a trap and apprehended the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.9,000 from the complainant.
The search at the residential premises of the accused is underway and the investigation is continuing.
