Hot & dry weather to continue in J&K

Hot and dry weather is likely to continue this week in Jammu and Kashmir, the MeT office said on Tuesday.

The maximum temperatures over many parts of Kashmir division are likely to range between 30-32°C and 38-40°C over the plains of Jammu, the MeT office said, adding the hot and dry weather is likely to continue till June 23.

It said, the weather will mainly remain dry, but a brief spell of shower or thunderstorm at one or two places towards late afternoon or evening can’t be ruled out during June 20-23.

Generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate thundershower at scattered to fairly widespread places during June 24-28, the MeT office added.

Srinagar recorded a low of 18.2 degree Celsius on Tuesday against 16.9 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 2.4 degree Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

The maximum temperature was also 3.3 degree Celsius above normal of 28.4 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the MeT office said.

Qazigund, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, recorded a low of 16.2°C against 15.2°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 1.9°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, had a low of 9.1°C against 9.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal

for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir.

Kupwara settled at 14.1°C against 13.2°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 1.3°C

for the north Kashmir district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 15.4°C against 16.1°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C above normal for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 10.2°C against 10.5°C last night and it was above normal by 1.8°C for

the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, the MeT office further added.
