Jannik Sinner begins ATP Finals title defence with dominant win

Date:

World No.2 Jannik Sinner began his title defence at the 2025 ATP Finals with a commanding straight-sets victory over Olympic mixed doubles bronze medallist Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-5, 6-1.

According to Olympics.com, on Monday, World No. 2 Sinner sealed his 27th consecutive victory on indoor hard courts. He also notched up a sixth consecutive victory without being broken at the ATP Finals.

“There is a new feeling of playing here, the court is a bit different, so I’m happy with how we’ve adapted,” a victorious Sinner said on court in Italian. “You have to be focused throughout the match, as soon as you concede a break, it’s very difficult to recover. Today, I was very focused. I’m happy, we’ll see how the next one goes.”

Sinner dominated on serve, winning 89 percent of his first serve points and converting three of his break opportunities. The 24-year-old also took 63 percent of points on Auger-Aliassime’s second serve to secure victory in just over 90 minutes.

The result comes only eight days after Sinner defeated the Canadian in the Paris Masters final. With this win, the defending champion moved a step closer to securing both a second consecutive ATP Finals title and the year-end No. 1 ranking.
