J&K: Mehboob Beg (PDP) files nomination from Anantnag Assembly seat

Date:

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) General Secretary Mehboob Beg filed his nomination papers from Anantnag assembly constituency on Friday and expressed hope that the people would elect him based on his party’s previous performance.

“The people of Anantnag will consider my and PDP’s performance during our previous tenure and vote for the best candidate, ensuring my election in the upcoming assembly polls,” Beg told media persons after filing his nomination papers in Anantnag.

When asked about the challenges in the election, Beg replied, “No election can be taken for granted, and every election poses its own set of challenges.”

He expressed confidence that south Kashmir, considered a PDP stronghold, would repeat its previous performance, which would have a positive impact on central and north Kashmir as well.

Regarding the alliance of parties, Beg said, “The people will decide whether the alliance is strong or not. In my opinion, alliances are possible only when compromises are made. However, such compromises should not be at the cost of the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Beg emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which he deemed unconstitutional. He asserted that the PDP is the only party that will not compromise on the aspirations of the people.

“PDP and our leader Mehbooba Mufti have consistently spoken out against the unconstitutional abrogation of Article 370 without fear,” Beg said.

He pledged to seek votes based on his party’s previous performance in Anantnag district and promised to work towards the development of the district and the entire Jammu and Kashmir, with a comprehensive program in place.
