Kashmiri journalist Asif Sultan, who was arrested in 2018 on militancy charges, was released on Wednesday.
His release came more than two months after Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court quashed his preventive detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Sultan was released from jail in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, family sources said.
Aasif Sultan, was associated with the now closed magazine “Kashmir Narrator”, when he was arrested in 2018. He is accused of working for a banned militant group and booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various other sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) – now the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The family and his lawyer have been denying these accusations.
In 2022, Sultan was booked under PSA.
Sultan had received the John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award from the American National Press Club in 2019.
