Light to moderate rainfall in J&K, Awantipora record highest; more showers likely

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity, with the highest precipitation recorded at Awantipora, which received 33.4 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department said the weather is expected to remain wet over the next three days. The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates scattered to fairly widespread light rain and thunderstorms across the Union Territory.


The outlook for the subsequent two days also suggests similar conditions, with more light rain and thunderstorms expected in several areas.

The weather is likely to remain dry for five days between April 12-17.

In the last 24 hours several parts of Jammu and Kashmir received light and fairly widespread rainfall.


According to MeT data, J&K highest rainfall was recorded at Awantipora in Pulwama district. The ski resort of Gulmarg recorded 19.0 mm of rainfall, followed by Pahalgam at 16.8 mm, while Srinagar city recorded 11.9 mm of rainfall.

In the Jammu division, Banihal recorded 6.4 mm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, minimum night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir remained above normal on Tuesday. In most parts of the Kashmir division, temperatures were 3 to 5?C higher than usual, while in the Jammu division, they were 4 to 6?C above normal.

Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 3.0?C, while Banihal was the coolest in Jammu division at 11.8?C.

Maximum day temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir remained well above normal on Tuesday. In most parts of the Kashmir division, temperatures were 4 to 9?C higher than usual, while the Jammu division saw a rise of 5 to 7?C.
