Pakistan finalise coaching setup for T20WC as Kirsten eyes tournament success

Date:

Two new coaches added to Pakistan’s setup as South Africa great Gary Kirsten gets ready to start his role as white-ball coach.

Kirsten will commence his tenure as Pakistan coach next week as the Asian side finalised their coaching setup for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Kirsten will begin his role as Pakistan’s white-ball coach prior to their T20I series against England at the end of this month, with the four matches to provide the team with some valuable match practice ahead of the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Pakistan are drawn in Group A at the T20 World Cup alongside arch-rival India, Canada, Ireland and the USA and the 2014 champions have announced Simon Helmot (fielding coach) and David Reid (mental performance coach) will join the side and provide Kirsten with valuable support at the 20-over showcase.

But it is Kirsten’s arrival that has Pakistan excited about the potential of a second T20 World Cup title and the former South Africa batter is keen to get started, an ICC report said.

“I’m truly excited to embark on this new journey with the Pakistan men’s cricket team. It’s an honour to coach such a talented and dynamic team, and I’m eager to contribute to their success on the international stage,” Kirsten said.

“These are indeed thrilling times for Pakistan cricket, with a new administration and players who are driven to deliver solid results. The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 presents a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our skills and uphold Pakistan’s legacy as a formidable force in cricket,” he said.

“However, success will require collective effort, meticulous planning and unwavering support for one another. With 19 other teams vying for the title, we must consistently outperform our rivals to realise our aspirations,” Kirsten said.

“On a personal level, I’ve missed the experience of coaching at the international level and nurturing talented players to reach their full potential. I’m committed to working closely with the team to elevate their game and bring joy to fans around the world,” he added.

Pakistan’s opening match at the T20 World Cup comes against co-hosts USA in Dallas on June 6, before their eagerly awaited contest against India in New York on June 9.
