Prime Minister Narendra Modi today issued a clarion call to citizens, urging them to actively participate in the “Run for Unity” on October 31. The event forms a key part of the celebrations marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, fondly remembered as the ‘Iron Man of India’.
Taking to the social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared his enthusiasm: “Join the Run for Unity on 31st October and celebrate the spirit of togetherness! Let’s honour Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India.”
This collective run is a key component of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations, an initiative designed to bolster national cohesion and integrity. Sardar Patel’s monumental efforts in seamlessly integrating India’s numerous princely states following independence are a bedrock of the nation’s identity, and his enduring legacy continues to be a source of inspiration.
The Prime Minister stressed that India’s vast diversity is its very soul, and Patel’s vision of a single, united India remains a critical guiding principle.
Beyond the run, the government has meticulously organized a series of events to commemorate the anniversary. This includes a magnificent parade slated for the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. This showcase will feature the nation’s diverse fabric, with contingents from various states and central armed police forces participating. Citizens interested in attending this grand display of unity in diversity can register online.
PM Modi’s call has been warmly received, with citizens showing keen interest in celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirming their commitment to national unity.
