Police solve theft case in J&K?s Ganderbal

Police on Friday said they have solved a theft case by arresting the accused and recovering the stolen property in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

An official said Kangan police station received a written complaint from Sub-Divisional Manager BSNL Ganderbal on June 15, alleging that some unidentified persons had stolen 24 batteries from BSNL Tower at Mamar during the intervening night of June 14/15.

Police registered a case under relevant sections of law and started an investigation.

During the investigation, a special police team was constituted and with the help of technical evidence and CCTV footage, a suspicious vehiclewas spotted near the crime scene.

Police said while verifying the details, the investigating team apprehended one person identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar a resident of Rakh-e-Highgam Sopore, along with the said vehicle.

During questioning, the accused confessed that he along with his associates committed the crime. He also confessed that they later sold the stolen batteries to one scrap dealer at Sopore.

Accordingly, all 24 stolen batteries were recovered and two vehicles used in the commission of crime seized.

Further investigation is going on and more arrests are expected, police added.
